Lalitpur, led by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MOFAGA), with technical support from USAID’s Tayar Nepal the Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DIDRR) Resource Book was officially endorsed and launched on January 10, 2024. The resource book, a result of extensive collaboration, seeks to disseminate comprehensive information and raise awareness about various disabilities and the concept of Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction.
The book was acknowledged by Honorable Minister Anita Devi, symbolizing its credibility among local government officials. The resource book was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Rishi Raj Acharya, Undersecretary, MOFAGA, Ms. Anita Ghimire, Vice-president, National Federation of the Disabled-Nepal, Mr. Santosh K.C. President, National Federation of the Deaf, Mr. Ram Prasad Bhattarai, Board Member, DPNET Nepal, Ms. Krishna Karnee, USAID’s Tayar Nepal, Ms. Tika Dahal, Board Member, Nepal Disabled Women Association (NDWA) and Mr. Pallav Pant, Chairperson, Atullya Foundation Pvt. Ltd, showcasing a unified commitment to inclusive disaster preparedness.
The launch event included an opening session, detailed presentations outlining the DIDRR resource book’s development process by Atullya Foundation and key speeches from the guests which emphasized the need for continuous advocacy and the practical application of the resource book in disaster risk reduction efforts.
In closing remarks, Mr. Rishi Raj Acharya reiterated the resource book’s significance in guiding disaster response, particularly for persons with disabilities. Participants were urged to advocate for the resource book’s utilization at the local level, with a commitment to its localization. The successful endorsement and launch of the DIDRR Resource Book mark a significant milestone in promoting inclusive disaster management practices and ensuring the safety of vulnerable communities during emergencies.
