Feasibility of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) based industrialization in Nepal: A prerequisite to Make in Nepal Campaign | Department of Plant Resources Thapathali, Katmandu. | 2020 | To fulfill the Government of Nepal’s commitment and intent to commercialize Nepalese medicinal plants to alleviate poverty and gain national prosperity through industrialization, a study is felt necessary to (i) identify the raw materials, their availability and estimate quantification in seven provinces; (ii) enlist the potential products, and (iii) suggest the places for the establishment of industries in seven provinces. We adopted both qualitative and quantitative methods for this assignment. We first identified at least three potential MAPs for industrialization at the province level, quantified the annual production, and estimated the potential distribution areas within the province. Chiraiton Tejpata and Rittha were prioritized for Province 1; Satawari, Sikakai, and Masala was for Province 2; Chiriato, Satawari, and Dhasingre for Bagmati Province; Chiraito, Satawari, and Musli for Gandaki Province; Timur, Rittha, and Tejpat for Province 5; Rittha, Jatamansi and Kutki for Karnali Province; and Rittha, Amala and Tejpat for Sudurpaschim province. We then identified the potential herbal/ayurvedic products that have both domestic and international markets. Abhipattikar Churna, Triphala Churna, Herbal tea, and Chiywanprash are the major recommended products. Finally, based on resource availability, infrastructures, and as per the consultation with experts, we propose the list of potential areas for industrialization in each province. |

It was also used to identify the best practice and tools utilized nationally and internationally to deal with climate change-induced disasters. The study was conducted in Bagmati Province and Province No. 2. A review of existing national and international policies suggests that there is enough provision to accommodate youth in every sphere of society. The policies have good provision to engage and accommodate youth. While analyzing the secondary source of information, the study has identified many national and international good practices to engage youth in DRR/CCA and to build a resilient society. The study suggested, Youth activists should be provided with protection if any of their activities endanger their lives. The study suggests that youth plays a vital role in responding to disasters in the community so they should be sensitized and trained in DRR/CCA. In the current situation where the world is facing a pandemic due to COVID-19, this is an opportunity to create more youth participation in society by the government and the concerned stakeholders. The youth can be trained to support the society by spreading awareness, distributing supplies, and assisting the people with the pandemic. |

However, the largest agricultural impacts is from this province and the study was done to study the value chain study of onion, mango, garlic, litchi, jack fruit, turmeric, and Makhan keeping in mind its professional farming in Province 2 of Nepal to increase the per capita income of farmers of people involved in agriculture of this state such that it increases their quality of life and provinces’ prosperity. The study states the need of increasing the agricultural productivity to ensure nutritional safety, agriculture and non-agricultural based industries need to be developed to increase employment opportunities and income, creating a competitive agricultural sector for a balanced agricultural sector, addressing the vulnerable communities regarding food and nutrition safety and finally guaranteeing the quality of products. |
